Describe yourself in a few key words
Friendly, down-to-earth, fun-loving, caring, supportive
What brought you to become an Image Consultant?
After a period of chronic pain I decided life was too short to wait any longer to follow my dreams. I have always loved clothes and putting an outfit together. I had my lightbulb moment a few years ago when I first had my colours done and I saw the impact that wearing the right colours can have on how people feel about themselves. I decided to retrain as a colour analyst and personal stylist.
Health issues have affected my self-confidence and weight but I have learned to accept myself for who I am. I have spent time and effort to learn the tools to make myself and others feel happy in their own skin. My goal now is to pass on these tools to other people who, for whatever reason, have lost their self-confidence. I want to help other people to accept themselves, love their own body and to dress with confidence.
What do you love most about your job?
It’s an amazing feeling seeing a client’s confidence grow because of the help you’ve given. I love helping others feel their best by wearing the right colours for them and experimenting with different colour combinations. It’s great reigniting people’s love of clothes by helping them find the right outfits for their body-shape and lifestyle.
Who have you worked with that compliments the work you do?
Most of my clients are people like me who have either lost their confidence for one reason or another or live hectic lives and haven’t had the time to devote to themselves so have lost touch with their personal style. I also work on interiors and help people pull a room scheme together. It’s so rewarding to have received such positive reviews from my clients – please see my website (www.helenmacstyle.com) to read them for yourself.
What are your favourite brands & who are your favourite fashion designers/influencers?
My favourite brands for consistency of quality are Marks & Spencer, Mint Velvet, Boden, Hush and Kurt Geiger. My go-to stores for a quick update are Zara and Topshop.
I haven’t really got a favourite designer but style icons I admire are Louise Redknapp, Olivia Palermo, Inès de la Fressange and Sarah Jessica-Parker. I have always loved big sunglasses – Jackie O style. I also think Helen Mirren always looks amazing!
Tell us 3 things about yourself we don’t know…
• When I was a teen, I served canapés at a party hosted by Ronnie Barker
• I am scared of heights – even very high heels would give me vertigo these days!
• I believe in the power of 3!
What is your style philosophy?
Love what you wear! Having a style that reflects your personality, your lifestyle and the image you want to portray to others is key. You can’t buy style or just follow a set of rules – your personal style should reflect who you are. Know the rules but don’t be afraid to break them!
Tell us your favourite quote or words of wisdom…
