How much make up is too much?
Did you know that two in three women wear ‘too much make up’? Research reveals that men prefer the ‘natural look’ on women and are put off by women who ‘cake’ themselves in make up on a daily basis. We know that not everyone will wear make up purely for the opposite sex, but how much make up is too much? How much make up looks good?
Everyone has their own opinions on make up and what looks good, but remember, a little make up goes a long way. There is no need to go overboard with the pressed powder or foundation, you do not want to apply too much because this will not only clog up your pores, but it will also not allow your skin to breathe, which may lead to spots! (as mentioned in previous blog post on how to look after your skin!). Remember that a small, even layer of powder or foundation is enough to keep your skin healthy, yet give you the confidence if you are used to applying either of these products, or both!
Everyone has different face shapes, so when it comes to wearing and applying make up, it is important to take into consideration what will look appropriate for your face shape. There are three main face shapes. Take a look…
1. Round face. When applying lipstick, dark lipsticks will make your face appear to look more bold and not too round.
2. Heart-shaped face. Heart shaped-faces tend to have high cheek bones and narrow chins. Adding softer colours on the upper lips such as rose pink shades and darker colours on the bottom will focus more on the boldness on the bottom part of your face, once the lip colours have been partly blended together to form an eye-catching shade.
3. Square face. With square faces, jaws appear to be larger than the forehead, so avoid dark shades and use light colours such as soft orange or pale pink to add more focus to the lower part of your face.
Contouring and highlighting is a term that sounds scary, but we promise it’s easy! Take into consideration your face shape and follow the guidelines as to wear you should be applying the bronzer and highlighter. Make sure that when you are applying make up to your skin that you are in an area that has a lot of natural light. The last thing you want to do is step outside and realise you have applied too much! A tip is to blend with a damp sponge so there are no harsh lines, and voila!
When it comes to mascara, it does not matter which shape face you have, wearing mascara will bring definition to your eyes- resulting in beautiful lashes!
