Describe yourself in a few key words
Emotional, inquisitive, scatty, fun
What brought you to become an Image Consultant?
I spent my 20s working around the world as a travel journalist, and was continually fascinated by the beauty products and routines of different cultures. The creativity, the science and the mindfulness involved in beauty has always attracted me, and after having my second child I decided to make the switch to beauty writing and consulting full time.
What do you love most about your job?
When people say my advice has made them feel more comfortable in their own skin. Nothing beats that!
Who have you worked with that compliments the work you do?
All the personal stylists at The Image Consulting Company, and the amazing local photographer Venetia Norrington.
What inspires you?
All the unhealthy, dishonest and underhand elements of the beauty industry. It is an industry that still has a lot wrong with it, and my mission is to be a positive, helpful and honest voice to help override the bullshit. There is so much to be enjoyed and celebrated, it’s just a question of navigating what’s out there.
What are your favourite brands & who are your favourite fashion designers/influencers?
Gosh so many. Fresh new brands such as Glossier and Beauty Pie, classic skincare heavyweights such as Clinique and Clarins, genius French pharmacy brands like Vichy, simply gorgeous ethical brands such as Tata Harper and Evolve Beauty… and lots more!
How would you describe your personal style?
Complete chameleon with both clothing and makeup. Some days I resemble a 17-year-old boy in cut-off jeans, beat-up trainers and no makeup; others I’ll wear a leopard-print jumpsuit and a bright red lip! For me, that’s what it’s all about!
Tell us 5 things about yourself we don’t know
What is your style philosophy?
If it feels good, go for it.
Tell us your favourite quote or words of wisdom…
“Be the change you want to see” Ghandi
What plans do you have for the future?
My ultimate goal is to set up a charity that provides regular visits to house-bound elderly ladies, offering companionship (cuppa and a chat), hair washing and styling, help with baths / showers, as well as manicures and hand massages. Elderly care is something I feel hugely passionate about. The levels of loneliness among the elderly in this country is shameful. We can do a lot to tackle this.
