Swap til you drop
We’ve all got unworn items sitting unloved at the back of our wardrobes, but what if you could turn those garments into fashion gold in just one evening? One of our fabulous stylists, Becky Barnes, helped a group of women do just that recently.
Clothes swapping isn’t a new idea but it’s enjoying resurgence at the moment as increasing numbers of women turn away from fast fashion and look for ethical alternatives. Becky held a clothes swap event at Leigh Court in Bristol last week, raising over £1400 for Labour Behind The Label, a charity that supports garment workers’ rights worldwide.
More than 90 guests joined Swap Til You Drop, which was presented by BBC presenter and conservationist Miranda Krestovnikoff. Each guest was asked to bring three items from their wardrobe that they no longer wear and, over a few glasses of bubbly, they were able to exchange those items for new ones that set their fashion pulses racing. As well as the swapped items, pre-loved designer boutique Village Green also supplied a wide range of designer clothes for guests to choose from, to ensure that everyone would find items they loved.
At the end of the evening, guests had a chance to bid in an auction of Becky’s exclusive capsule wardrobe, as well as a silk hand felted creative by Linda Thomas Eco Design.
“We were delighted with how the event went – everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we managed to raise a staggering amount for an extremely worthwhile cause. Big thanks to all the businesses who got involved and, of course, to our lovely guests who really entered into the spirit and made it an unforgettable night,” said Becky.
Well done, ladies!
